Pediatric Endocrinology
Department of Paediatrics, Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal is one of the oldest and
leading paediatric Department in coastal Karnataka, delivering state of art care to needy children for last
7 decades. To add one more feather to the crown, now the department is set to start dedicated
Paediatrics – Adolescent Endocrine services to children with various hormonal and metabolic problems.
Through this clinic we aim to focus on children with poor growth, early or late puberty, disorders of sex
development (DSD), thyroid and adrenal disorders, bone disease and metabolic problems
(Hypoglycaemia, Lipid disorders, Diabetes and Obesity).
Medical Services
We provide advanced diagnostic care and treatment for children with hormone disturbances including
- Growth disturbances (short or tall stature)
- Pubertal disorders (early or late sexual development, menstrual problems, polycystic ovarian
syndrome) - Juvenile Diabetes
- Thyroid disorders in children
- Obesity and related metabolic complications in children and adolescents
- Endocrine problems in newborn babies (Hypoglycemia, Diabetes, Congenital Adrenal
Hyperplasia) - Newborn screening for Congenital
- Hypothyroidism and Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia
- Disorders of sex development (Ambiguous/Atypical Genitalia, Micropenis)
- Adrenal gland disorders
- Bone disorders (Rickets, Osteogenesis Imperfecta, Osteoporosis)
- Neuroendocrine disorders
- Syndromes with endocrine problems (Turner’s syndrome, McCune Albright and Prader Willi
syndrome) - Endocrine complications of systemic illness and their treatment (as in children with cancers,
Thalassemia, Chronic renal disease, Cystic fibrosis etc).
